Our United Way always works to ensure that our programs create an impact on the El Paso Community. Daniela’s journey with Parents as Teachers (PAT) is nothing short of inspiring, showcasing how a program designed to support parents can inspire other parents wanting to give the same support for other families in need.
Daniela’s journey began when her son Diego was just six months old. Wanting to look for support during her family's early development, she was introduced to one of our Parents as Teacher’s Parent Educators who would become a guide in her parenting journey. This educator provided valuable insights on child development and also empowered Daniela to set and achieve personal goals. One of these goals was to transition back into the workforce while balancing motherhood.
Daniela gradually gained confidence in her abilities. The support and mentorship she received through PAT were essential towards helping her achieve her goals. Encouraged by her positive experience, Daniela decided to become a Parent Educator herself. She was driven by her desire to give back and support other parents in the same transformative way she had been supported.
Her transition from program participant to educator highlights the impact of supportive communities and dedicated mentors. In 2023, Parents as Teacher has served over 236 children and 204 families, ensuring support for our future generations and current families seeking assistance. Now as an educator, Daniela plays an important role in the lives of many families.

Reflecting on her journey, Daniela expresses deep gratitude to Ms. Romero, the educator who believed in her potential and opened doors that led to meaningful change for her family. Now wanting to do the same for others, she hopes to have the same positive influence for other families.
